How to give permission to third-party apps to access Apple Music in macOS

A hidden gem in Apple Music: Play music through other apps on your Mac!

Did you know your Apple Music subscription can work with other apps on your Mac? This lets you control your music through speaker apps like Amazon Echo or even add songs to playlists in music game apps.

Here’s how to unlock this feature

  • Make sure you’re subscribed to Apple Music (there’s a free trial if you’re new!).
  • Open the Music app on your Mac and go to “Account” in the menu bar.
  • Select “Apps With Access”. Here, you’ll see a list of compatible apps.
  • Choose the apps you want to grant access to your Apple Music library and click “Done.”

Now, you can use those apps to play your Apple Music collection. Want to revoke access later? No problem! Just go back to “Apps With Access” and click “Remove” next to the app you want to disconnect.

By the way, Apple also has a handy online version of Apple Music that many people need to learn about. So you can listen to your tunes from anywhere with a web browser!

Tip: Remember, not every app needs constant access to your music. Only grant it to apps you actually use and trust.
