Review

The Apple Watch Series 9 isn’t a revolutionary overhaul but offers some compelling improvements for health-conscious iPhone users. The star of the show is the significantly brighter display, which makes it a joy to use outdoors. Gone are the days of squinting at notifications in the midday sun. The upgraded battery life, without a night-and-day difference, allows for more confident sleep tracking without scrambling for a charger in the morning.
The new health-tracking features are mixed. The advanced blood oxygen monitoring might be helpful for athletes or those with respiratory concerns, but it might be overkill for casual users. The real win is the improved heart rate sensor, which is more accurate during workouts, leading to better fitness data.
However, some might need more design changes. The Series 9 retains the same look and feel as its predecessors. Additionally, software improvements are mostly incremental. While the hands-free gestures are a neat addition, they don’t feel like a game-changer.
So, who should upgrade? If you have an older Apple Watch or prioritize a brighter display and more reliable health tracking, the Series 9 is a solid choice. However, if you’re happy with your Series 8 and don’t crave the latest features, it might be wise to wait for Apple’s next big leap.
