The option to add online apps and websites to the device’s home screen is now supported by Google in a new update for the Chrome app for iPhone. Google has made improvements to the Chrome WebKit and web app functionalities.
This new feature won’t function without the most recent Chrome update, which is presently available for download on Apple’s App Store. However, having iOS 16.4 or later installed is also necessary for this update, which provides the capability for third-party web browsers to save websites on the home screen.
The new version of Google Chrome may already be loaded/installed on devices that were set up to receive updates automatically. Anyone else can manually add it. According to the release notes, users “can embed URLs or web apps that continue on your home screen.”
An excellent approach to keep quick and simple access to a website or service without its own iPhone app is to add a web app to the iPhone’s Home Screen. However, it doesn’t happen all that frequently anymore.
A number of new features were added to Chrome for iOS last month, including the ability to search for products using the camera, enhanced translation tools, and even the option to create calendar events directly from the browser.
Apple is adding similar and new features to the Safari app included with macOS Sonoma. Although the upgrade won’t be made available to the users until later this fall, both developers and participants in the public beta program currently have access to it.
